Section: Design solutions (25-30%)
Subsection: Determine which types of Power Automate flows to implement
Topic: Choose connectors for a solution, including custom connectors
Suggested Approach:
To choose connectors for a solution in Power Automate, you need to understand what connectors are and what types of connectors are available. Connectors are components that provide access to data and actions from different apps and services such as SharePoint, SQL Server, Microsoft 365, Salesforce, Twitter and more. Connectors also come with triggers and actions that define when and how the flow runs.
There are three types of connectors in Power Automate: standard connectors, premium connectors and custom connectors.
Standard connectors are built-in connectors that are available for all users with a valid license.
Premium connectors are built-in connectors that require a premium license or plan to use.
Custom connectors are user-defined connectors that connect to any API or service that has a RESTful endpoint.
To choose which connector is suitable for your solution, you need to consider your business requirements and goals. For example, if you want to connect to a common app or service that has a standard or premium connector available, you can use that connector without creating a custom one. If you want to connect to an app or service that does not have a built-in connector available, or if you want to customize the connector’s functionality or appearance, you can create a custom connector.
To add a connector to your solution, you need to open the solution and select Add existing > Connector from the toolbar. You can then choose the connector you want to add from the list of available connectors.
To create a custom connector in your solution, you need to select New > Automation component > Custom Connector from the toolbar. You can then follow the steps to define the custom connector’s properties, security settings, actions and triggers.
